Premade vs Custom Neon Signs: How to Choose and What Each Costs
A neon project can start with an existing design or with artwork made for your space. This guide compares those approaches in general. GetQuickSigns now accepts custom neon enquiries; the former premade catalog is retired, so the examples below are not offers for stocked designs.
What premade gets you
A premade sign is a design that has already been drawn, tested, and manufactured many times. That has three concrete benefits:
- A published price. If a seller offers a current premade design, compare the exact size, included components and delivery charges before ordering.
- Proven proportions. These designs survived contact with real walls. The line spacing, letter weight, and backing shape are already dialed in.
- Less design work. An existing design may require fewer decisions, but availability and delivery still need confirmation for your deadline.
The tradeoff is obvious: it says what it says. If the sign needs your name, your logo, or your handwriting, premade is off the table.
What custom gets you
Custom neon is your artwork turned into tube. Wedding names and dates, business logos, a phrase in your own handwriting, a mascot. The process at our shop: you send the idea through the custom neon form, we send back a mockup and a firm quote, you approve, we build. Nothing goes to production until you have seen the proof.
Custom pricing depends on the artwork, dimensions, backing, controls and mounting requirements. Compare a quote for the actual design rather than using a retired catalog price. For broader sign budgeting, see our 2026 price index.
The decision in four questions
1. Does it need to be unique?
Names, logos and dates usually call for custom artwork. A short phrase may also work as a custom design. Share the wording and a photo of the intended space so the design can be discussed at the right scale.
2. How soon do you need it?
Custom work includes design and approval time before production. Share the required delivery date at the enquiry stage and confirm the schedule before ordering; do not infer it from a discontinued listing.
3. What is the budget?
Give a target budget with your enquiry. Ask how changes to size, lettering and detail would affect the quote, and compare the complete price and included components.
4. Will the design age well?
A custom sign with your family name will hang for a decade. LED neon is rated around 50,000 hours of glow, per this lifespan comparison, so pick words you will still want on the wall in 2036. The market clearly thinks these signs are keepers: LED neon lighting is projected to grow from $1.4 billion in 2025 to $2.7 billion by 2035, per Future Market Insights.
Our honest recommendation
Choose the wording or artwork that fits the space, then decide whether an existing design from an available seller or a custom enquiry best meets the project. GetQuickSigns can discuss a custom design; it does not currently offer the former premade catalog.
Discuss a custom design. Send your text, logo or sketch, preferred dimensions, intended location and deadline through the custom neon enquiry form. Confirm the design, complete quote and delivery schedule before ordering.
