What Size Should Your Business Sign Be?
“What size should my sign be?” is the question we hear most. Too small and it disappears; too big and it overwhelms the wall (and the budget). Use these rules of thumb and you will land on the right size the first time.

The golden rule: 1 inch of letter height per 10 feet of viewing distance
Sign readability is about letter height, not overall sign size. Text 1″ tall is comfortably readable from about 10 feet; 3″ letters from 30 feet, and so on. Figure out where your viewer will stand, then work backwards to the letter height – the overall sign size follows from your logo’s proportions.
Recommended sizes by location
- Behind a reception desk: 24″ x 12″ to 36″ x 18″ – sized to sit inside the visual frame of the desk
- Office or suite door: 8″ x 10″ to 12″ x 12″
- Feature wall or large lobby: 48″ x 24″ and up – we print up to 96″ x 48″
- Conference room: 18″ x 9″ to 24″ x 12″
- Trade show booth: 24″ x 12″ minimum – attendees read from the aisle, not up close
Match the sign to the wall, not just the room
A good-looking install usually fills 30–60% of the width of its visual zone – the stretch of wall framed by furniture, doorways, or trim. Measure that zone, take half of it, and you have a solid starting width. Painter’s tape is your friend: tape out the rectangle on the wall and stand back before you order.
Let your logo set the proportions
Stretching a logo to force it into a size is the #1 sizing mistake. Our sign builder prevents it automatically: upload your artwork and the builder sets the sign to your logo’s exact proportions, with an aspect-ratio lock while you resize. Type your target width and the height adjusts itself – no skewed logos, ever.

FAQ
What’s the most popular lobby sign size?
24″ x 12″ is our most common order – big enough to anchor a reception wall, small enough to ship affordably. At $0.19 per square inch it runs about $55.
Can I order odd dimensions?
Yes – any size down to the thousandth of an inch, up to 96″ x 48″. You are never locked to preset sizes.
What if my size and my logo don’t match proportionally?
The builder will warn you before checkout and offer “fit” and “center” placement options so nothing prints stretched. More on that in our artwork preparation guide.
